ABOUT VAN DOORN

Van Doorn was established in 1980 with the initial purpose of repairing and cleaning containers by making use of mobile service vans. In early 1994 a complete new dimension was added to Van Doorn’s services by setting up an empty container depot in Rotterdam (Maasvlakte).

As a result of both organic growth as well as by means of strategic acquisitions, Van Doorn Container Depot is nowadays one of Rotterdam’s leading operators in the fields of empty container storage, repair and added-value services for both dry- as well as reefer equipment.

Our facilities, technology and people meet and exceed the highest standards within our industry.

Van Doorn Container Depot B.V. is a subsidiary of Logistic Connection B.V., part of the De Roo Group, comprising of a number of companies active in various fields of container-logistics, such as Freight Forwarding, NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier), Customs Brokerage, Rail Logistics and Depots.

past

Johan van Doorn founded the company in 1980 with the initial purpose of repairing and cleaning containers by making use of mobile service vans. In early 1994 a complete new dimension was added to Van Doorn's services by setting up an empty container depot in Rotterdam.

In July 1998, Johan van Doorn sold his company to Westellingwerf B.V., which initiated a further expansion of the company. In August 2002 Van Doorn expanded its capacity by renting a larger premises from ECT. Due to the acquisition of Overbeek Container Control (OCC) in January 2003, Van Doorn expanded its activities and capacity and in November 2003, Van Doorn grew once again by taking over the activities of Handico Terminals at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam.

Until September 2005 van Doorn was located at the premises of ECT Delta Terminal (Missouriweg), from which they moved to a premises at the Coloradoweg, leased from the Port of Rotterdam Authority. During 2007 Van Doorn needed to move once again to its current location at the Malakkastraat, right in the heart of Maasvlakte, the centre of international container shipping in Europe largest port: Rotterdam.

In November 2009 Van Doorn Container Depot was acquired by Logistic Connection B.V., part of the De Roo Group, comprising out of a number of companies active in various fields of container-logistics, such as Freight Forwarding, NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier), Customs Brokerage, Rail Logistics and Depots.

In October 2011 the activities of Van Doorn Container Depot crossed the Dutch border, via a new facility at the Watergang 5 in Antwerp, to also offer their familiar and excellent service to the Belgium market.

Present - Rotterdam

Van Doorn Container Depot has two strategic locations in both Rotterdam and Antwerp, respectively the 1st and 2nd largest ports in the international shipping industry in Europe. The depot in Rotterdam is located at the Malakkastraat, right in the heart of Maasvlakte, the centre of international container shipping in Europe largest port.

Our gate at the Malakkastraat 51 is conveniently located closely to the A15 highway and is not disturbed by the dense traffic at the ECT Delta and APMT Terminals, which may occur due to system failures, traffic jams and strikes.

Van Doorn is directly connected to ECT Delta Terminal, making use of the so-called Multi-Trailer-System (MTS). This connection offers customers access to transport modalities such as rail, barge and ocean.

Our current depot facilities have a total storage capacity of 13.500 TEU (95.000 m2) whereas our cleaning area is large enough to enable us to clean up to 54 container units simultaneously. The Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI) area comprises of 120 plugs, plus 2 power-packs for emergency situations. Our reefer-body specialists handle over 2000 repairs per year in a temperature controlled warehouse, the workshop is as large as 800 square meters.

Our 4 fully-owned forklift trucks are able to stack containers up to 8-high and are all equipped with a Radio Frequency System. This system enables the drivers to accept, release and store containers in real-time and allows us a permanent overview of the depot stock and container locations. Made available 24/7 to all our customers by means of secure e-Services over the Internet.

The opening times in Rotterdam are between 05.00 AM and 23.00 PM (Monday to Friday), Outside these times the containers can be delivered or collected at other terminals, and if required than please inform us 24 hours in advance.

 

Present - Antwerpen

Van Doorn Container Depot has two strategic locations in both Rotterdam and Antwerp, respectively the 1st and 2nd largest ports in the international shipping industry in Europe. The Antwerp depot is situated at the Watergang, next to the PSA Churchill Terminal in Antwerp.

The gate at the Watergang 5 has a fast connection to the E19 highway, giving Van Doorn Container Depot a perfect connection to the ring of Antwerp, and therefore providing it’s customers with an ideal connection to the hinterland in either Belgium, France or The Netherlands.

Via a so called “buffer” zone the depot has possibilities to offer the same additional connections as in Rotterdam, which are transport modalities such as rail, barge and road.

Our current depot facilities in Antwerp have a total storage capacity of 4.900 TEU (3.500 m2) whereas our cleaning area is large enough to enable us to clean up to 35 container units simultaneously. The Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI) area in Antwerp comprises of total 42 plugs, there are 2 power-packs present for emergency situations. Our reefer-body specialists handle over 500 repairs per year.

Our 2 fully-owned forklift trucks are able to stack containers up to 8-high and are all equipped with a Radio Frequency System. This system enables the drivers to accept, release and store containers in real-time and allows us a permanent overview of the depot stock and container locations. Made  available 24/7 to all our customers by means of secure e-Services over the Internet.

The opening times in Antwerp are between 06.00 AM and 22.00 PM (Monday to Friday), Outside these times the containers can be delivered or collected at other terminals, and if required than please inform us 24 hours in advance.

 

Future

After the completion of Maasvlakte II, Van Doorn Container Depot in Rotterdam will be able to expand its capacity and current handlings. For the initial stage the current facilities in Antwerp are more than up to standard, and present capacity sufficient to market demand.

The vision of Van Doorn Container Depot is to be one of the leading depot facilitators within Europe, realised by developing multiple locations with the same service and performance -standards. Thus enabling it's customers, to have one point of entry while having an European coverage.

Investment in port and inland transportation access remain essential to the continuing development of the global economy, and Van Doorn Container Depot remains active in Europe pursuing appropriate projects and partnerships.

Our skilled staff receives any necessary trainings whenever required, thus allowing them to remain aware of the latest standards.

  • Container collections and deliveries can be made 24/7, either via our own gate or via the gates of other terminals (outside Van Doorn opening hours), we need to be informed about this 24 hours in advance.

 

STORAGE

Our depots have respective 95.000 / 3.500 square metres of storage space available, which enable us to store 13.500 TEU in Rotterdam and 4.500 TEU in Antwerp, this stacked up to a maximum of 8-high.

We operate 6 Fully owned forklift trucks for the handling of empty containers, in total 4 for Rotterdam and 2 in Antwerp, furthermore these trucks are suitable for carrying 2x40’units simultaneously, giving maximum time-efficiency.

All our handling material is equipped with a Radio Frequency System, enabling our personnel to accept, release and/or store units on a real-time basis.

The Radio Frequency System, combined with our state-of-the-art software applications, allows us a permanent overview of the depot stock and container locations. By utilizing these systems we are able to reduce and even avoid waiting times for hauliers whilst also resulting in better ‘first in – first out’ performance for our customers.

This information is available 24/7 to all our customers by means of secure e-Services over the Internet.

 

pre-trip inspections

Our Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI) area accommodates over 120 reefer-connection-points in Rotterdam and 42 in Antwerp, giving direct access for specialists to arrange  Maintenance & Repair (M&R) of reefer units. We offer the possibilities to change several times per day at this stack, thus giving maximum flexibility against minimal cost.

Currently our selected partners for this purpose are Smith Holland and Seamark. Both companies offer inspection of all technical functions, maintenance and repair of possible visible damage to the reefer unit or generator set.

It is our policy to let our clients select their own preferred partner for M&R of reefer units in order to be able to adhere to possible global commitments and policies.

 

 

 

Cleaning

At our extensive cleaning facilities in both Antwerp and Rotterdam, we are able to clean up the  units simultaneously in compliance with the standards of the industry.

At our depots we use “high pressure cleaners” with hot water at the same amount of pressure as with cold water, which gives even a better performance in cleaning your equipment to the requirements you and your clients need.

Van Doorn Container Depot recognizes the importance of the environment in which we work and live and consequently we conduct our business in a manner preventing environmental pollution, our cleaning facilities fully comply with this policy.

We have possibilities to change several times per day at this stack.

Effective Maintenance & Repair (M&R) is vital to any owner of container equipment, especially for special equipment and temperature controlled units.

As an owner you need your valuable equipment up-and-running with the least possible outage times, whilst it should be in the best possible condition in order to ensure safe carriage of goods for you and your clients. No less important, proper M&R also increases the lifespan of your equipment.

Van Doorn Container Depot is able to offer you a wide range of repair services, performed by our highly skilled staff that is fully aware of the latest standards.

reefer equipment

Qualified staff of trained and experienced mechanics performs body repairs on either stainless steel or aluminium units.

These repairs are arranged from a temperature-controlled workshop and guarantees repair times to be reduced to an absolute minimum.

Body repairs are also carried out for fellow depot-operators in the Port of Rotterdam who recognize our capabilities in this field.

 

 

 

DRY equipment

Experienced mechanics take care of repairs of standard dry equipment as well as special (open top, flatrack) equipment in compliance with standards set by our clients.

 

 

 

Workshop and mobile repair

Our fully equipped workshop has an extensive range of spare parts available ‘on stock’.

Mobile services are available to provide services throughout the Port of Rotterdam on request.
